American Goldfinch Thistle Drone
This drone is made of white pine and has been stained misty taupe to enhance the natural grain. I have carved relief thistles along the shaft. The totem of the finch is made from poplar. I have detailed the feathers and only use glass eyes to add to the realism of this beautiful bird. The small rocks are also hand carved. My wife has painstaking painted this finch in layers upon layers of paint to bring it to life. Diane has sculpted the thistle with durable clay and embedded each petal by hand. If you would like a drone like this one the price would be $450.00.
The American Goldfinch feeds on thistles and sunflowers. Berries and small insects only make up a small part of this pretty bird's diet. Their nests are so tightly woven that sometimes they can hold water. In the spring the male becomes this incredible yellow with black on his crown. They molt their feathers twice a year.
